INVITATION:

EDJE (Education Deans for Justice and Equity) is pleased to announce the Summer 2025 EDJE Writing Retreat for all of the contributing authors who are drafting chapters for our forthcoming book about the EDJE Framework. Facilitated by the book co-editor Kathy Schultz, the retreat will be provide ample time for writing as well as several opportunities to share chapter ideas and progress and to give and receive feedback from one another.

This three-day retreat will be held on the campus of Western Washington University. A very big thank you to our host, Dean Kevin Roxas and the Woodring College of Education, as well as the retreat cosponsors (TBA).

LOCATION: The entire retreat will be on the campus of Western Washington University (room TBA).

The WWU’s Visit website has information on driving directions, including downloadable and interactive campus maps with parking info.

TRANSPORTATION AND LODGING: All participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.

• AIRPORTS: There are two nearby airports:

  • The nearest is the Bellingham International Airport (BLI), which is a 10-minute drive or taxi ride from campus.

  • The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is an approx. 2-2.5 hour drive from campus.

    • The Bellair Airporter Shuttle - Airporter.com provides a shuttle-bus service 9 times a day from SEA to Bellingham, taking you conveniently from the Seattle Airport to the Four Points Sheraton (the hotel where we have arranged the group discount rate). This 3-hour shuttle ride is $53 each way.

• HOTEL: WWU has arranged a discounted group rate for us at the Four Points by Sheraton Bellingham Hotel & Conference Center, 714 Lakeway Drive Bellingham, WA 98229. The rate is $209 plus taxes per night, which includes a hot breakfast each morning, and this rate applies from July 23-27 so that you can arrive a day early and stay a day later, if you wish. Please make your reservations by June 23 in order to receive the discounted rate, which you can do in two ways:

  • Online: Book your group rate for Education Deans for Justice in Equity (please note that this link didn’t work for me on Chrome but it did on Safari)

  • By Phone: call (360) 671-1011 and reference the “Education Deans for Justice and Equity” room block

REGISTRATION:

The Registration Fee is per-person and includes all sessions and meals as indicated above. You are welcome to choose from any of three available rates on a sliding scale (i.e., pay what you can). Please note that the retreat organizers believe strongly that the registration fees should not serve as a financial barrier to access and participation, so if you require additional financial assistance, please contact me (Kevin) to discuss how to register at even lower rates. To ensure that we have enough space and food, please register by Friday, July 11.

• Regular Registration Rate: $299 per person

• Moderately Discounted Registration Rate: $199 per person (anyone with limited financial resources may select this rate)

• Significantly Discounted Registration Rate: $99 per person (anyone with limited financial resources may select this rate)
